December 2021

Like scorched earth, we sit in the remains of wildfires, disease, abundant misinformation, cultural turmoil, and fear our own increasing numbness to disaster. As artists we craved a more potent image this Advent—an image that would honor humanity's collective trauma and still evidence the indelible hope we have (and fight to have somedays). The image of Christ in the scriptures is of a God who grows through the very middle of our scorched earth, rooted in our pain, and yet springing into a flourishing new life. Your scorched earth, friend, is the very place where God chooses to reveal glory, beauty, and redemption. "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."
